A Picture is Worth 1000 Words

I just booked another vendor, our Wedding Photographer! Her name is Kim Irons and I really like her work. She has a very creative eye and shoots a more photojournalistic style, so I think she's really going to capture the day and our style perfectly. You can check out some of her work here: http://kimirons.com/.

My Wedding Dress!

I am SO excited, I found and ordered my Wedding Dress Yesterday! It's so pretty!

The designer is Maggie Sottero. It's the Amara Royale dress in Ivory. It's a corset, strapless gown with sweetheart neckline, dropped waist, flare skirt, and a sweep train. It features swarovski crystals and bead embellishments.

If you want to see what it looks like, send me an email (I didn't want to post it because then Jonathan would see it).

Note: the diet starts tomorrow :-)

Here is a tiny preview of the dress:

Let Them Eat Cake

This week while I was in San Diego I met with my favorite bakery, The Grove Pastry Shop, about doing our Wedding Cake. The Grove Pastry Shop has done almost all of my Birthday Cakes since I was 8 years old, so I was very happy to hear that they could do my wedding cake for a very decent price.

Check out the Grove Pastry Shop's gallery of wedding cakes here: www.grovepastryshop.com/.

I'm going to do a variation on their seashell cake, but incorporate my turquoise color and just have Starfish and Sanddollars. Here is a sketch of my cake design:

Dresses They Will Actually Wear Again?

It’s almost obligatory for a Bride to say to her Bridesmaids, regarding their Bridesmaid dresses, “Oh! You could totally wear this dress again!” But it’s a rare Brdesmaid that ever wears said Bridesmaid dress again (usually because it’s a pink, taffeta, nightmare of a dress with awkwardly placed bows on it someplace). However, as a bride I am on a quest to find dresses that could potentially be worn again by my Bridesmaids.

When my friend, Laurel, got married in October she let us pick our own dress from J.Crew in the color Espresso. I’ll fess up that I was worried that it might look weird, but it looked REALLY good. AND I even wore my dress out on the town a few times before the wedding because I liked it so much (much to my Mother’s dismay… she was appalled that I’d wear the dress before the wedding and risk ruining it).

So I’ve been thinking about matching the color (ocean blue/turquoise) and material of the Bridesmaid Dresses but letting the girls pick their style. Right now I have two options on the table…

1) Siri. Their styles are classic, adorable, and fun. Below are my favorite Siri styles. All of them come in Shantung material in the color ocean (see below, the Yale dress is in Shantung- ocean). I’m not sure 100% if the Bridesmaids would necessarily wear these again (I mean how many occasions do you have to wear an ocean blue party dress?), but at least the girls would feel more comfortable if they got to pick their own style for their figure.

2) Two Birds Bridesmaid. These dresses come in a “one size” with directions for how to wrap it in over 10 ways. You can do strapless, backless, sleeved, halter, etc. The material looks really comfortable and I love idea of many ways to wrap the same dress (they have a nice turquoise color as well). I feel like bridesmaid would definitely wear these dresses again because they are so versatile. My only concerns are a) formality (they look a bit casual) and b) is the dresses really fit as well as the company says that they do. Check out the colors below and the models wearing them. They are all wearing the same dress wrapped in a different style and it looks really matched without being “matchy-matchy."

Reception Space

I am really excited about my Wedding venue, the Hilton San Diego Resort on Mission Bay. I love the ceremony site right on the bay, the cocktail hour site on the water, and the ballroom with the beautiful French doors that open up to pool and bay. However, lately I’ve been worried about the size of the room. The room is 2,560 square feet and they say it can seat up to 160 (but 160 is apparently tight). And I need to fit the band and dance floor (which is ideal with 130 according to my wedding guy at the Hilton). I think that about 150 people will attend the wedding. This space issue was making me SO nervous that I down loaded the Hilton’s meeting planning software and mapped out the room (below, to seat 160 at 17 tables). It looks tight but I think a packed room can add a lot of energy. What do you think … tight? OK?

Charity as a Wedding Favor

One of the current Wedding Trends is to have a charitable donation as a favor instead of the traditional box of chocolates or a matchbook, which I really like.

As some of you know, on November 23rd my Grandfather, Jack Frageman passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's Association is also the National Philanthropy of Tau Kappa Epsilon (Jonathan's Fraternity). So we thought it would be special to do a donation to Alzheimer's Association in lieu of a elaborate favor to honor Grandpa Jack and TKE.

Since Starfish and Sanddollars are a big part of our wedding theme, I was thinking of giving everyone a Sanddollar that says something like "A dollar for you, a dollar for them. A dollar has been donated to Alzheimer's Association in your name" and then have a small explaination of what Alzheimer's Association means to Jonathan and me.

Our Parents Wedding Pics

I managed to get some pictures for Jonathan's Parent's Wedding and my Parent's Wedding as well. I want to use them somehow at the wedding -- maybe on the guestbook table or the cake table. Personally I like the pictures of our Parents with their Wedding Cakes the most. Check out how similar they are ...

The Fabulous Ultratones

We booked a band, the Ultratones. You can read more about them here: http://www.ultratones.com/ and you can see that our wedding is already listed on their calendar. We heard them play at Lindsey Sullivan's reception and they rocked! Needless to say were are very excited about having them.

AND the Ultratones were just voted #2 in San Diego for Wedding Entertainment by Channel 10 Best of San Diego: http://kgtv.cityvoter.com/Winners/PopWinner.aspx?contest=82
